Hi, I'm Shawn, an indie developer and explorer at the boundary where technology meets the human. I believe the most powerful things AI can do aren't the loudest. They're the ones that quietly serve the intimate parts of life: falling asleep, staying focused, holding on to a memory, sitting with an emotion.
Rather than chasing trends, I focus on one question: can I build something simple, restrained, and lasting around a need that will always exist? My current work lives at the intersection of AI and lived human experience, touching sleep, creativity, focus, and reflection.
// The Penumbra Philosophy
Penumbra, the zone between light and total darkness, is not just a name. It describes the space I choose to work in, where code's cold logic and human feeling are not opposites but conversation partners. Every product I make is an attempt to find that balance: technically precise, emotionally resonant.
I think from first principles. What is the real need beneath the surface? What design removes friction without erasing meaning? What makes a digital experience feel not just useful, but quietly alive?
// On the Name & Design
The word penumbra comes from astronomy. It describes the partial shadow cast during a solar eclipse, the zone that is neither fully illuminated nor fully dark, but something in between. That is where the transition happens.
That liminal quality is precisely what I wanted the studio to embody. This site itself is designed as a visual translation of that idea. The eclipse at the center of the homepage is not decoration; it's the thesis. The rotating conic gradient oscillates between tech blue (#4f46e5) and classical gold (#d4c4a8), representing the two forces I believe all meaningful digital work must hold in tension: the precision of engineering and the warmth of the human.
The design language, which I call Cyber-Classicism, pairs brutalist terminal-style typography with the elegance of serif type and restrained negative space. The grid fades into the void. The noise filter adds grain, like old film. The glassmorphic navigation blurs the boundary between foreground and background. Every detail is meant to feel like it exists in the penumbra: precise, but alive.
// How I Work
Indie development, to me, is not about doing everything alone. It's about using tools, systems, and AI to amplify a single human perspective into something complete. Each product in this portfolio is an external expression of how I think, what I value, and what I find beautiful.
I believe the most vital builders of the future will be those who can move between both worlds: the rigor of systems and the intuition of art. That tension is where interesting things are made.

「半影」，光与绝对黑暗之间的过渡区域，不只是一个名字。它描述的是我选择工作的地方：代码的绝对理性与人性的神秘感性并非对立，而是彼此对话的空间。我做的每一个产品，都是在寻找这种平衡：技术上精准，情感上有回响。
我喜欢从第一性原理出发思考：需求表象之下，真正的渴望是什么？什么样的设计能减少摩擦，却不消除意义？什么让一段数字体验不只是「有用」，而是悄然有生命感？
// 关于名字与设计
「Penumbra（半影）」是一个天文学词汇，用来描述日食时，光与绝对黑暗之间那一片既非全明、也非全暗的过渡区域。变化，正是在那里发生。
这种介于两极之间的特质，正是我希望这个工作室所代表的状态。这个网站本身，就是对这一理念的视觉翻译。首页正中那个日食，不是装饰，而是命题。旋转的圆锥渐变在科技蓝（#4f46e5）与古典金（#d4c4a8）之间震荡，代表着我认为所有有意义的数字作品必须同时承载的两种力量：工程的精确，与人性的温度。
这套设计语言，我称之为「赛博古典 / 粗野极客风」，把终端机式的暴力排版与衬线字体的优雅留白并置在一起。网格向虚空渐隐，噪点滤镜带来胶片的颗粒感，液态玻璃导航模糊了前景与背景的边界。每一个细节，都试图让人感受到它存在于半影之中：精准，但有生命感。
// 工作方式
独立开发，对我而言不是「一个人完成所有事」，而是借助工具、系统与 AI，把一个人的视角放大成完整的作品。这里的每一个产品，都是我思考方式、审美偏好与价值判断的外化表达。
我相信，未来最有生命力的创造者，是那些能在两个世界之间自由穿行的人：系统的严谨，与艺术的直觉。正是这种张力，才是有意思的事情真正发生的地方。
